The benchmark guidelines for managing occupational health and safety

ILO-OSH 2001 "Guidelines on occupational safety and health management systems", the OH&S management tool developed by the International labour Office, is the only international benchmark framework adopted within a tripartite governing structure syndicating government, employers and workers.
These guidelines focus on the core values of employee participation and consensus-building with employee representatives.

Steps towards certification

ILO-OSH certification is phased in through a series of steps:

  • Audit step 1: analysis on the key OH&S management system components (risks, regulatory intelligence, internal audit, management review, definition and design of the audit schedule...),
  • Audit step 2: auditing rollout of the OH&S management system (interviews, etc.),
  • Decision to award certification taken by qualified AFNOR Certification Experts (based on the audit report),
  • Certificate issued
  • 12-month routine surveillance audit: sustainability of the OH&S management system

At three years on: certificate renewal (contract).

The benefits

ILO OSH 2001 certification enables you to:

  • minimize workplace injuries,
  • integrate labour groups into the approach,
  • improve the company's productivity, and cut costs by gaining full control of staff safety-related risks,
  • minimize the risks of potential accident-related litigation,
  • integrate OH&S prevention measures up and down the company, engaging endorsement for the approach from both staff and senior executives.

Why Afnor Certification is the right choice

We can guarantee you:

  • Committed adherence to International Labour Office principles:
Afnor Certification helped develop the guiding principles underpinning ILO-OSH 2001, working on how they can be applied to certification, in tight collaboration with the International Labour Office,
  • fully-qualified auditors:
AFNOR Certification auditors may well be qualified specifically for this benchmark framework, but more than that, they are specialists in your business lines and core activities, and therefore fully in tune with your expectations.

Combination certification coverage options

ILO OSH 2001 is integratable with other quality (ISO 9001 plus sector-dedicated) and environment (ISO 14001) initiatives, and the related audits can be cross-coordinated.
