The nationally-recognized accreditation bodies in Europe have networked to form the EA (European Cooperation for Accreditation) infrastructure, and co-signed an EU-frameworked mutual recognition agreement for their conformity assessment activities, notably for certifications covering management systems, products and services, and people.
Under this framework, COFRAC and UKAS accreditations are officially recognized in every single country where EA-member accreditation bodies operate, just as if AFNOR Certification and the AFAQ EAQA had been accredited by each of these accreditation bodies, thereby avoiding a build-up of superfluous accreditations. The list of signatories to the EA multilateral agreement can be found here.
EA is a member of the worldwide IAF (International Accreditation Forum) network, and has signed a mutual recognition agreement with the other IAF member bodies covering quality certification body accreditation. The list of IAF network members can be found here .
