Prof. Dr. Ing. Jan Lieback, Executive Director of GUTcert, the German partner of AFNOR Group, and lead auditor, handed over the first certificate on the energy management standard DIN EN 16001 accredited according to the specifications of the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) to Jochen Weber, Head of Site Infrastructure at H.C. Starck`s plant in Goslar/Germany.
Active environmental protection and systematic energy management is a high priority for H.C. Starck. Within the frame of a sustainable energy policy H.C. Starck carries out extensive measures to reduce the specific energy consumption and the associated costs.
The certification according to DIN EN 16001 ensures continuous improvement of the company’s energy efficiency and the systematic improvement of the energy flows. The systems and processes to improve the energy efficiency have been implemented in accordance with the standards of the German Accreditation Body and were audited and certified by the certification body "GUTcert".
Handover of the certificate was in the presence of the Head of the Department of Management Systems of the DAkkS Mr. Dipl.-Ing. Peter Hissnauer and Mr. Ingo Therburg, assessor of the DAkkS for applying accreditors.
Details on the DIN EN 16001: The basis for efficient energy supply and usage is the knowledge of the major energy consumers within the organization and potential impacts. This requires that the operational processes have to be made transparent and should be recorded continuously. The DIN EN 16001 determines a structure for a corporate energy management system. As an instrument to increase energy efficiency it sets requirements for a holistic approach in order that companies continuously improve their energetic performance by on going activities. This in the end will save financial resources and reduce CO2 emissions at the same time.
