Launching of a vast international survey aimed at defining the framework of the forthcoming revision of the ISO 9001:2008 standard: Participate

ISO announces the launching of a survey, translated into 11 languages, concerning the ISO 9001:2008 standard in view of its importance in a very large number of countries throughout the world. The survey’s aim is to assess both the perimeter and the nature of the revision of these documents. Closing date: January 31, 2011.


ISO/TC 176/SC2 (ISO standardisation technical committee in charge of the drafting of the ISO 9000 family of standards) wishes to conduct an in-depth re-examination of the documents of the ISO 9000 family with particular emphasis on « ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems – Requirements » in order to ascertain its relevance with respect to user needs and to the economic context.


This examination forms part of the revision process of the ISO 9001:2008 standard, the main objective of which is to obtain feedback and comments from both current and potential users in order to know and take into account their needs and expectations.


Taking into account the nature of the ISO 9001 standard, implemented in a very large number of countries, ISO/TC176/SC2 has taken the decision to conduct an online survey available in 11 languages: French, English, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, German, Portuguese, Russian, Arab, Japanese and Italian. The survey was officially launched on October18, 2010 and will end on January 31, 2011.


Who are the current users and potential users targeted by the survey?

  • ISO 9001: 2008 certified bodies.
  • Bodies having declared themselves (self-declaration) compliant with the ISO 9001:2008 standard.
  • Bodies implementing the ISO 9001:2008 standard as a « framework » for establishing their quality management system (QMS).
  • Bodies certified on the basis of ISO 9001 sector-specific standards, e.g.: automobile ISO TS 16949; medical devices ISO 13485; aerospace industry AS9000 & AS/EN9100; telecommunications TL 9000; petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries ISO TS 29001.
  • Certification bodies.
  • Consultants.
  • Accreditation bodies.
  • Contractors/Principals who wish their suppliers to be compliant with the ISO 9001:2008 standard.
  • Bodies which know the ISO 9001:2008 standard but do not implement it.
  • Bodies which have firmly decided not to implement the ISO 9001:2008 standard.
  • Bodies which no longer use the ISO 9001:2008 standard.
  • Bodies which use other quality models as a basic element of their quality management system (QMS).
  • Students and universities.
  • Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).
  • Developing countries.
