Schneider Electric’s head office in France earns the new ISO 50001 certification on energy management

AFNOR Certification has issued on the 15th June 2011 the new ISO 50001 certification on energy management to Schneider Electric’s building “The Hive”, the company headquarters located in Rueil-Malmaison (92, France).

“This latest certification recognizes our commitment to energy efficiency and our expertise in this field,” says Frédéric Abbal, President of Schneider Electric France. “More than ever, we are aiming for the highest standards in energy management for both our customers’ buildings and our own. The Hive provides valuable feedback that we can leverage to develop efficient, operational energy performance solutions that create value for our customers.”

ISO 50001 provides guidelines for developing a management system focusing on energy performance. From an initial energy audit, the organization complies with its set energy targets and establishes a plan for energy metering. A management system meeting the requirements of this standard allows for short-term energy savings and cost reduction.

"All the experts agree on the fact that the energy cost will continue to rise. The only way for companies to limit the explosion of costs is to improve their energy management, "says Beatrice Poirier, environment and energy product manager, AFNOR Certification.

“Last year,” continues Mr. Abbal, “the Hive was the first building in France to be certified to HQE Exploitation, ISO 14001 and NF EN 16001 standards, officially recognizing the assertive efforts we have made since we moved to the site in January 2009. Today, we have reached a new milestone.”

Other Schneider Electric sites are following in the Hive's footsteps such as the commercial and R&D buildings in the Grenoble area.
