Driving a car, handling a weapon, spreading fertilizer or pesticides in just the right amount, medical imaging diagnostics, customer service chatbots... Artificial intelligence is conquering every sector of activity. But how can we ensure that it inspires confidence? We have the tools.

The benefits of an AI management approach

Artificial intelligence is on the rise. Many companies are facing the challenge of integrating AI-based tools to gain a competitive edge. But at what level of risk? How can confidence be inspired? The secret lies in four letters: SMIA, which stands for responsible artificial intelligence management system.

Implementing a three-step AI management approach

  • AI and its rapid development are causing great concern. Do the risks outweigh the opportunities? This risk/opportunity matrix is used in management systems. They equip you to identify risks and opportunities, find compromises and performance indicators, and above all, they enable you to continuously improve in this area. When

it comes to AI, the global ISO/IEC 42001 standard sets the tone. It is your cheat sheet for deploying an artificial intelligence management system (AIMS).

  • Do you need to show your customers and partners that your use of AI in your products and services is risk-free, or at least governed by a risk management system? ISO/IEC 42001 certification signals to the market that you are ahead of the curve in terms of risk management and regulatory compliance. It does not presume compliance with the AI Act, but it does give you a leg up. This is very useful when implementing high-risk AI systems, such as in the medical device sector.

  • From 2021 to 2025, AFNOR has been tasked with outlining voluntary standards that would be useful to AI designers and users in France. The European AI Act of 2025 entrusts the European standardization body with the task of preparing harmonized standards, i.e., standards that give presumption of conformity with this regulation. AFNOR,

on behalf of France, is working in particular on the draft European standard on the characterization of trust within the framework of CEN-Cenelec JTC 21. You can join our work.
