In a circular economy approach, and more specifically in eco-design, the analysis of environmental impacts is based on various criteria: contribution to climate change, pollution and nuisances, soil erosion, environmental acidification, biodiversity… This comprehensive method requires a thorough understanding of life cycle assessment (LCA) and fully integrates eco-design into a circular economy approach.

To demonstrate its commitment to consumers and stakeholders, a company can have its eco-designed products certified through a product certification program (such as NF Environnement or the European Ecolabel). It can also opt for the AFAQ Eco-design assessment, which focuses more on project management than on the final result, thereby demonstrating the effort invested in terms of organization and resources throughout the eco-design process. The AFAQ Eco-design assessment results in a score out of 1,000 points, reflecting a maturity scale, awarded following an independent evaluation. You can Download the AFNOR Certification guide for free  which describes it in detail.
