Why adopt a low-carbon approach?
The European Union and France have signed the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit the rise in global average temperatures to less than 2 °C by 2100 compared to pre-industrial levels. This treaty, signed during the United Nations COP21 in December 2015, recommends doing everything possible to ensure that this increase does not exceed 1.5 °C, which would already cause numerous disruptions and extreme weather events.
This goal requires a drastic reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. To take the most significant action possible within its borders, the European Union has set the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, with an intermediate milestone in 2030: a 55% reduction in GHG emissions compared to 1990 levels.
