Why focus on energy efficiency?

In industry, saving energy is synonymous with saving money. Consuming less and more efficiently also reduces your reliance on fossil fuels, their fluctuating prices, and geopolitical unrest affecting producing countries. You can also use this opportunity to develop a low-carbon roadmap.
To achieve all this, a roadmap is needed. In this case, manufacturers would be well advised to follow the recommendations of the voluntary ISO 50001 standard. Two out of three consider the cost of the initiative to be low relative to the benefits it generates,  according to a 2024 AFNOR study that you can download.

There are many initiatives in place to help manufacturers begin their energy transition. For example: the program  ADEME Industry Pact , whose Pro-SMEn program guides you toward ISO 50001 certification. Are you a manufacturer already committed to—or ready to commit to—ISO 50001 to streamline your energy management? Watch the recordings of our webinars, organized in partnership with ADEME, featuring experts sharing their best practices. Let them inspire you!
You can also  Download for free here  a collection of case studies featuring 18 successful examples.

Are you in the energy-intensive category, consuming more than 10 GWh of electricity per year—for example, in the paper, metallurgy, chemical, or cement industries? Your TURPE rate is reduced by 20% to 90%, depending on the case, if you hold a ISO 50001 certification .

Have you consumed an average of more than 85 terajoules per year over the past three years (equivalent to 23.6 GWh)? Starting in October 2027, the  New Energy Efficiency Directive  will require you to implement an energy management system in accordance with the recommendations of the ISO 50001 standard. As has been the case since 2012, holding an ISO 50001 certificate exempts you from the the quadrennial energy audit as required by this directive.
