Why focus on environmental protection?

Widely used in the building and construction industry during the 20th century, asbestos is a material with many beneficial properties (resistance to heat, fire, electricity, and chemicals), but it has proven to be highly toxic. Banned in France since 1997, it remains present in many buildings and pieces of equipment (road surfacing, trains, ships, etc.). Due to the dangers of asbestos, the law requires that products containing this substance be identified in sprayed-on coatings, insulation, drop ceilings, pipes, walls, partitions, roofs, etc.

The asbestos inspection must be performed by a person holding a certification issued by a COFRAC-accredited body, such as AFNOR Certification. This professional knows how to systematically identify asbestos-containing products or materials that may contain asbestos. If asbestos is present, the inspection identifies the necessary actions to be taken (containment or removal). An inspector holding a basic certification (“without specification”) may perform the mandatory inspections prior to the sale or rental of a property by a private individual.
