Why focus on environmental protection?

To address the environmental challenges threatening the planet, there are two types of action: regulatory requirements and voluntary commitment. The environmental management system (EMS) falls into the second category. Implementing one is by no means mandatory, but it is recommended to improve efficiency, ensure nothing is overlooked along the way, and sometimes even to win contracts. This is especially true in industry!
To this end, there is a universal guide: the voluntary ISO 14001 standard. It aims for continuous improvement in a company’s environmental performance by encouraging it to organize itself to reduce the impacts associated with its operations: raw materials, water, energy, waste… The ISO 14001 standard is based on the Deming Cycle and its four key steps (plan, do, check, act) aimed at the goal of continuous improvement. The ISO 14001 standard lists 18 requirements divided into six chapters:

- General requirements
- Environmental policy
- Planning
- Implementation of actions to meet the environmental policy
- Monitoring and corrective actions
- Management review
