In France, the employer has a regulatory requirement safety obligations toward its employees (Article L. 4121-1 of the Labor Code). This obligation includes, in particular, drafting and updating a DUERP (Single Document for the Assessment of Occupational Risks), in accordance with the nine general principles of prevention set forth in Article L. 4121-2. A Workplace Health Plan 2026–2030 provides the framework for public policy.
In addition to this regulatory requirement, industrial companies can rely on a voluntary certification process , structured around the ISO 45001 standard, to go beyond the minimum requirements and establish a sustainable occupational health and safety management system. Another type of approach: the MASE framework (Business Safety Improvement Manual), a safety, health, and environmental management system designed to prevent occupational hazards in industrial settings.
