Voluntary standards in the health and medical-social sectors are developed by professionals in the field, through committees that bring together all stakeholders, with the public interest in mind. They should not be confused with regulatory measures.

In the field of occupational health and safety (OHS), the flagship standard is ISO 45001, which provides a framework for implementing a certifiable management system. Also worth noting is the One Health approach, which plays a prominent role in France’s 2025–2030 standardization strategy.
This entails France’s active participation in joint ISO, OIE, and WHO initiatives on zoonosis surveillance, laboratory biosafety, and the exchange of epidemiological data, in coordination with ISO/TC 212 “Medical Laboratories and In Vitro Diagnostic Systems” for diagnostic aspects.
