Developing metrology standards
Voluntary metrology standards are developed by metrology professionals in committees that bring together all stakeholders, with the public interest in mind.

The most famous of these is the ISO 17025 , which outlines general requirements regarding the competence of calibration and testing laboratories. But as technologies and practices evolve, there is always a need for new best practices to serve as a reference.
The field of metrology is closely linked to the world of standardization, in that professionals routinely use units of measurement—such as the meter or the microgram per cubic meter—which are internationally recognized as a common language in their work. A prime example is the field of pressure vessels. This is exactly in the same spirit as voluntary standards, whether they pertain to a technique, a measurement method, or a process.
