AFNOR: A Challenging but Successful 2025

On June 22, 2026—exactly 100 years to the day—AFNOR celebrated its centennial. Founded on June 22, 1926, the French Standards Association is now setting out on another 100 years of voluntary standards, developed by and for market stakeholders, with a renewed ambition to promote them internationally! Employees, partners, clients, and distinguished guests celebrated this anniversary at the Institut de France in Paris during a busy day divided into three parts: 

• the general meeting of the members , followed by a board of directors meeting at which Guy Maugis was reelected as chairman
• an afternoon of discussions titled “Voluntary Standards, Visionary Standards: Two Hours to Envision the Future,” opened by Clément Beaune, High Commissioner for Strategy and Planning, and moderated by Mathieu Baudin, director of the Institute for Desirable Futures
• the ceremony for the Gold trophies , recognizing organizations that have participated in strategic standardization efforts or have used voluntary standards in their projects. The event was concluded by Sébastien Martin, Deputy Minister for Industry, who had written the foreword to the new French standardization strategy developed by AFNOR and the sectoral standardization bodies for the period 2025–2030.

On the morning of June 22, AFNOR’s general assembly of members took note of the group’s strong results for the year 2025, despite the discontinuation of public subsidies for activities in the public interest. These subsidies were reduced to covering only half of the dues owed to the European and international standardization organizations on which AFNOR serves as a member. This new situation, which had been anticipated for some time, led the association to report a net loss. However, this situation is offset by contributions from subsidiaries, the international network, and the new business activity AFNOR BAO , which had a strong year. Thanks to these results, the Group’s consolidated scope closed the 2025 fiscal year with a profit. “We must, however, continue our efforts this year and beyond,” insist Guy Maugis and Olivier Peyrat, respectively chairman and CEO of AFNOR, at the start of the 2025 Annual Report .

Guy Maugis, former president of Robert Bosch France and subsequently an advisor to the Executive Board of Robert Bosch GmbH, has been reelected as chairman of the AFNOR Board of Directors for a three-year term. Currently a member of the strategic committee at SPEIRA and WINOA, a member of the European Council at KPS Capital, and a member of the Advisory Board at Melcofin, he is responsible for managing the reindustrialization fund for the Belfort region’s employment area. He also served as president of the Franco-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry until 2025.
Guy Maugis is a graduate of École Polytechnique, an École des Ponts et Chaussées engineer, and holds a law degree. His career in industry, spanning both France and Germany, aligns with AFNOR’s ambitions to become even more actively involved in France 2030 and to support Europe’s claim to sovereignty in the markets of tomorrow. He has served as chairman of AFNOR’s board of directors since 2023. Alongside him, the members of the executive committee are:
