Following the AFNOR General Assembly of members on June 27, 2023, in Paris, the members of the Board of Directors elected Guy Maugis as President of AFNOR. In accordance with the Association's statutes, this choice was presented to Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Economy, Finance, and Industry, who approved it. The industrial and Franco-German background of this former Bosch employee, a graduate of the École Polytechnique and civil engineer, is in line with AFNOR's ambitions to become even more involved in France 2030 and to support Europe's claim to sovereignty in the markets of tomorrow, in the wake of the European standardization strategy outlined by Commissioner Thierry Breton in February 2022. He succeeds Marc Ventre, who has reached the end of his second term. Jérôme Delpech joins the Association's Ethics Committee, an advisory body, replacing François Pelegrin.

Guy Maugis will also have to steer AFNOR towards 2026, the centenary year of an association that is well established in terms of its normative influence around the world.

Couverture du baromètre international de normalisation This is evidenced by the 2023 edition of the international standardization barometer , which measures the volume of voluntary standardization work carried out by each country in Europe and worldwide. It shows that France remains in second place on the European stage (CEN-CENELEC) and third place on the international stage (ISO-IEC). With a quarter of the activities at CEN, France ranks behind Germany and far ahead of the United Kingdom, and is behind the creation of two new standardization activities on quality in medical imaging ( CEN/TC 470 ) and drones ( CEN/TC 471 ). Globally, France still trails Germany and the United States, but leads Japan, the United Kingdom, and China. It hosts 79 secretariats, including a new one on natural gas refueling stations ( ISO/TC 340 ).

At the General Meeting, the members of the French Standardization Association (who numbered 1,500 as of December 31, 2022) approved the annual report and financial statements for 2022. Within the scope of the Association's activities (standardization, publishing), the financial results show a net profit of €2.9 million, based on revenue of €70.2 million, excluding public subsidies (€6 million). These figures can be found in the 2022 activity and social responsibility report. These strong results, which are the fruit of the strategy implemented over several years combined with the commitment of our employees, demonstrate the robustness of the group's economic model.
