Why is effective water resource management important?

In recent years, France has faced intense rainfall events exacerbated by climate change. These events have led to floods of varying severity, affecting everything from a single municipality to an entire watershed. Flooding is often exacerbated by soil conditions—which can be either very dry or saturated with water—as well as by the type of surface construction and urban development.

At the local level, municipalities are therefore on the front lines when it comes to water risk management. Added to this are the challenges of water resources and wastewater management, as municipalities often entrust the operation of these networks to private companies under public service delegation agreements. Best practices exist for all of these issues.

Erwan Chagnot (AFNOR): Toward More Efficient Water Management

“ “Today, we want to expand the management systems already in place (which are based on ISO 14001 or ISO 50001) to ensure more efficient water management,” says Erwan Chagnot, head of AFNOR Bretagne and technical advisor for water at AFNOR, who will also lead a workshop on March 11 during the Conference on Water Conservation.
