all for Experts: Contribute to the Cyclinfra Project on Digital Cycling Infrastructure Data

The European Commission, through the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA), is funding experts to contribute to the Cyclinfra project, an initiative to improve the exchange and re-use of digital, machine-readable cycling network data across Europe. The project aims to make cycling more attractive and accessible by ensuring that accurate geographic data on cycling infrastructure is available, interoperable, and easy to integrate into modern mobility services.

Topic 15 – Project Scope

Cycling is a cornerstone of sustainable mobility, yet today cycling network information is often fragmented, inconsistent, or unavailable in digital formats. This limits its visibility in journey planning tools, especially for multimodal transport solutions.

The Cyclinfra project will address this gap by:

  • Enabling consistent, machine-readable cycling network data across Europe
  • Ensuring that cycling infrastructure is fully integrated into trip planners, both cycling-specific and multimodal
  • Supporting better information for cyclists, from local trips to cross-border journeys

By doing so, the project takes a concrete step toward aligning the European Cycling Declaration with existing regulations, including:

  • Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/1926, as amended by Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/490, on EU-wide multimodal travel information services
  • Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/670, supplementing Directive 2010/40/EU on EU-wide real-time traffic information services

Coordination and Expert Involvement

The initiative will be carried out within the framework of CEN/TC 278, ensuring close alignment with the formal CEN standardization process. In particular, the work will be coordinated with the activities of WG 3 (Public Transport) and WG 7 (ITS Spatial Data), fostering strong collaboration with European stakeholders in cycling, transport planning, and data standardization.

The outcome will directly support EU climate and mobility goals, making cycling a more visible and viable option in Europe’s integrated mobility ecosystem.

Why Join?

By joining, experts will:

  • Shape European standards that elevate cycling within digital mobility services
  • Collaborate across sectors, connecting cycling organizations, transport operators, and technology providers
  • Gain recognition and valuable experience in European standardization processes
  • Contribute to a project that supports sustainability and innovation

Your expertise can make a tangible difference in building a cycling-friendly, interoperable, and sustainable European transport system.

How to Apply

Funded opportunities to join the expert team are limited. However, stakeholders also have the option to contribute on a voluntary basis.
